Health Tip: Introduce Your Child to Music

Here's how your youngster could benefit

(HealthDay News) -- Listening to music offers many benefits to children, research indicates. Musically inclined kids appear better at math and reading, have shown better focus, improved self-esteem and seem to play better with other children.

The Nemours Foundation offers these suggestions for involving your child in music:

  • Listen to music or sing songs while you're doing chores around the house, driving, or while your child is enjoying playtime.
  • Get some kid-friendly musical instruments and CDs, and have them readily available for your child.
  • Find out if your child's school or day care incorporates music and singing. Learn the songs your children sing so you can try them at home.
  • Enroll your child in an age-appropriate music class.
  • Take your child to see live music (specifically for young children, if possible), whether at a bookstore, auditorium, library or museum.
