U.S. health officials and the American Heart Association have put forth an ambitious set of goals for reducing deaths from heart attack, stroke and coronary heart disease. The goal is to shift the population to a healthier lifestyle.
Lifestyle changes including diet and exercise are the cornerstone for the prevention of heart disease. You can slow or even prevent heart disease by taking steps toward a healthier lifestyle by adopting healthy habits such as eating right, exercising more, and not smoking. Making these changes can also help reduce risk factors such as high cholesterol and high blood pressure.
Heart disease kills more people in the United States than anything else. According to the U.S. National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute, it tops that list for both men and women. About half of the half-million Americans who die of heart disease each year are women.
